Chiredzi – Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu has sentenced Thomas Munhungei (27) to 15 and a half years in jail for raping two Bikita sisters in a hill.
Munhungei of Mayemu Village, Chief Mabika in Bikita will effectively serve the whole sentence.
Contrary to earlier reports, Terrible Mukanga who was Munhungei’s co-accused was acquitted and discharged at the end of the State case.
Munhungei did not rape the third sister aged 30 after she showed him blood stained sanitary wear.
He raped a 16-year-old minor and her 28-year-old sister. Munhungei assaulted the older sister after demeaning her and telling her that hers was not tight enough to satisfy him.
Munhungei raped the old sister while she was bending down holding onto the shoulders of her 16-year-old sibling. He allegedly instructed the minor to take notes as he raped the older sister.
Munhungei and Mukanga were facing two counts of rape and robbery. They robbed the women of mobile phones and cash totaling US$70. They held the three woman from 5 pm until 10 pm when they eventually let them go.
The ordeal happened on April 3, 2024, at Garira Hill between Mukanga Business Centre and Mayemu Village.
It is alleged that around 5pm the three women were on their way home from Mukanga Business Center to Mugarare Village.
The accused who were also at the business center decided to follow on a motorbike ridden by Mukanga.
Munhungei blocked the way of the three and threatening them with a knife, assaulted and ordered them to walk towards Garari Hill. Mukanga remained on the motorbike.
The three were made to sit down and then Munhungei went about raping the sisters. He assaulted the eldest sister for not having a tight private part.
During the trial, it emerged that Munhungei raped the three while Mukanga sat on the bike.
Ronald Kwangwari prosecuted.
