BIKITA – A computer server and a laptop belonging to Bikita Rural District Council Finance Officer Never Mavhuna were allegedly gutted by fire two weeks ago just after the local authority boss was arrested over the unauthorized purchase of US$190 000 state-of-the-art vehicles for managers.
Mavhuna is a star witness in Bikita Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Chibhi’s case. Chibi was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) three weeks ago after he allegedly borrowed a US$191 000 loan without government approval.
Chibhi said he was out of Bikita when contacted for comment and promised to get back to The Mirror when he gets information.
Council chairperson Benjamin Masakadze said he was in a meeting and could not comment.
Mavhuna denied that the computer was destroyed by fire, but authoritative sources said the Police were gathering a report on the matter.
Police Spokesperson Kudakwashe Dhewa said he was yet to receive the report.
