BIKITA – Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) District Elections Officer (DEO) for Bikita District Samuel Jaricha (80) who died on December 31, 2022 in South Africa was finally laid to rest at his rural home at Machingambi Village under Chief Marozva yesterday.

Jaricha is known for the torment that he suffered under the hands of suspected Zanu PF assailants in previous elections including having his homestead torched and being severely beaten and walking 66km on foot to escape torture.

Hundreds of people from across the political divide including CCC interim national organising secretary Amos Chibaya attended the burial.

Jaricha’s son Jefta Jericha told The Mirror that his father attended Beardmore Mine Primary before going to Ratelshoek Secondary in Chipinge where he did his standard six.

He then went to work in South Africa for a short stint before establishing himself as one of the most sort after builders through his company, Jaricha Construction.

CCC Masvingo Provincial chairperson Simon Ziki described Jaricha as one of the party’s strong pillars who became an opposition activist since the formation of the MDC in 1999.

He is survived by five children, 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
