CHIKOMBA – The business community in Chivhu has complained against big companies for failing to co-operate with other partners in the fight against robberies that rocked the transit town in the last three weeks.
Without mentioning names, Chivhu Business Community chairperson Maxwell Makurumure said big companies are not forthcoming with money for things like fuel for Police to increase patrols in the town.
He said that after agreeing to support Police, big businesses are doing nothing and their excuse is that the matter had been referred to their head offices in Harare.
Makurumure was speaking during a business forum meeting held at Chikomba RDC premises on Wednesday last week. The meeting was attended by Chikomba RDC Chairman, Israel Dhikinya, Chivhu ZRP Dispol Inviolatah Mangeya, and Officer in Charge CID Jabulani Ncube among other representatives from notable local businesses.
Armed robbers pounced at Eat n Lick, Moonlight Funeral Services, Exo Filling station and Muzana Lodge in a space of three weeks.
“The problem we have as a business community is that small businesses are willing to make contributions towards measures to curb these threats but our big corporates are not forthcoming. They promise to send requests to their superiors and they won’t come back with feedback,” said Makurumure.
Chivhu ZRP dispol, Mangeya assured the meeting that Police will do all in its powers to deal with the armed robbers.
