MASVINGO – A cry out for help at the height of the Covid19 lockdown by a prominent Mashava sex worker, Ree Chaumba (40) has seen Batanai HIV and AIDS Service Organisation (BHASO) donating food hampers to 110 male and female sex workers in the little mining village.

The donation was made last Tuesday.

Ree went public with her plight a few months ago and told The Mirror that her family was facing starvation because of the lockdown that saw her losing clients.

Simbarashe Mahaso the Bhaso acting director told The Mirror that his organization donated the food hampers in response to the plea by Ree.

“We donated 110 food hampers to the Mashava sex workers’ community after Chaumba appealed for food assistance to the public leading us to look for funds for their donations,” said Mahaso.
Mahaso said that they are going to donate the food hampers for three months starting from September to November.

Chaumba who is a sex worker and also a peer educator for Sex Workers Advocacy Group (SWAG) said she was grateful for the food hampers.

“We are very grateful for the food hampers because we are living in hard times due to lockdown,” said Chaumba. https://masvingomirror.com
