MASVINGO – Bethel Ministries International Church has planted nine trees at the church premises in Rujeko in Masvingo to commemorate the International Tree Planting Day which comes on the first Saturday of every December.
District Development Coordinator (DDC) for Masvingo, Roy Hove was the guest of honor at a function attended by officials from Mutirikwi Sub Catchment, Forestry Commission, District Crop and Livestock AGRITEX, Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, Masvingo City Council and EMA.
The theme of the event was combating climate change through tree planting day: The church has a role.
Seven of the planted trees are to provide shade while two are fruit trees.
“We commemorated Tree Planting Day to leave a legacy for our children in the church,” said Bishop Jabson Gumbo, founder of the church.
“I hope congregants will take this initiative home and plant trees in the environs. Together we can reforest our country,” said Hove.
