MUTARE – A younger man married to an older woman commonly referred to as a Ben 10 in street lingo attacked and allegedly caused the death of his wife’s lover in Sakubva in Mutare on Saturday.

Tawanda Chirenje (25) of 100 Matida flats is husband to Phillipa Dariyana (35). Dariyana  was in the company of her boyfriend, Gift Saungweme (40) drinking beer at 128 Matida Flats which is said to have been their love nest.

Police spokesperson Norbert Muzondo confirmed and said the lover was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Hospital where he died on the same day.

“Chirenje suddenly appeared armed with a machete where Philippa and her boyfriend were. He grabbed his wife in a fit of rage and dragged her to the entrance. Chirenje assaulted his wife with the flat side of the machete, booted feet and fists accusing her of having extra marital affair with Saungweme” reads the Police report.

Chirenje who was still choked with anger then turned on Saungweme whom he also assaulted using the flat side of the machete, booted feet and fists.

Saungweme who could not stomach the beatings anymore retaliated and the two wrestled while advancing towards a window. Saungweme fell from the window which is 15 metres above the ground and sustained head injuries.

Police are looking for Chirenje.
