BEITBRIDGE– Three armed robbers have been arrested in Beitbridge after they shot and injured a popular money changer Nigel Mazvanara whom they were attempting to rob of cash.

Beitbridge Police Spokesperson Inspector Thabani Mkwananzi confirmed the incident that happened on Wednesday at around 1 pm and said investigations are under way.

Two Nations is reliably informed that Nigel who operates at Engen Garage was shot once on the left leg as he wrestled the armed robbers.

Circumstances are that the armed robbers called Nigel and told him that they wanted him to change their money near Total Garage and Nigel drove his Toyota Honda Fit and met them. The transaction was done in Nigel’s vehicle.

During the transaction, Nigel was dragged to the backseat and one accused began driving the vehicle towards the newly constructed roundabout along Bulawayo road.

Nigel wrestled the two armed robbers at the backseat including the one who was pointing a pistol at him and after overpowering them he leaped forward and grabbed the steering wheel causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle which hit a sign post. Two robbers were nabbed by onlookers as they tried to run. The third one managed to escape with a bag full of money and was later caught
