Beitbridge CCC councillor loses ZAR300 000 to arsonists

BEITBRIDGE – Beitbridge CCC Ward 3 Councillor Takavingei Mahachi lost his Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicle, tires, compressors and other vehicle parts valued at ZAR300 000 he was selling at his garage in Mashavire area to suspected arsonists who burned down the garage.
The incident happened on Monday night and is being investigated by the Police under RRB number 9108/24. The garage is in the.
Matabeleland South Police Spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena could not be reached for a comment.
Mahachi confirmed the incident to Two Nations. He said that he suspects his political opponents of burning down the garage.
He said that he was operating a car wash and car park at the garage. Mahachi is also Chairman of Beitbridge Cross Border Transporters Association.
“I lost goods worth ZAR 300 000 and the Police are investigating the matter. It’s not clear but the inferno was politically motivated or it’s jealous people who want to see me down. I am sure that the Police will hunt down the perpetrators.
“All the brand new tires I was selling were reduced to ashes and my vehicle caught fire. I phoned fire fighters and they swiftly responded and put out the fire. My business has been destroyed,” he said.
Other products destroyed by the fire include pressure compressors and rims.
