Chibhorani Talk
With Sekuru Taurai
Life is meant to be lived and we are indeed living it here in beautiful and rich Chibhoraniland. No easy living of course what with all the everyday challenges we have to face. Talk of no money in the pocket, no jobs for the jobless, corruption, stealing and robberies that leave many maimed and dead, life threatening diseases galore, drugs and alcohol, rape and gender based violence, climate change and hunger, political instability, disability, poverty, family squabbles, the list is endless. In the end, kungokiyakiya, kungwavhangwavha, kugwaragwara nokugwarisisa zvakabatana nokushungurudzika.
The natural temptation in these unpalatable circumstances of course is to worry, become sad and allow fear to reign. What I want to say to you vazukuru vangu now is, that is not the way to go. Don’t worry, be happy said the singer. The choice is actually yours. Happiness is a decision, please don’t be a slave to fear and worry. They say you are what you think, think joy and you will be a joyful person. We are often sorrowful because we think sorrow. In sorrow and anger you cannot be in control wozoona munhu otema mumwe nesanhu in a trivial misunderstanding over a bottle of beer, even an empty one.
True happiness comes from within, not outside. Worrying will not put food on the table. It will not solve a single problem you may be facing right now. Worrying causes diseases, stress, hypertension,
When worrying you don’t eat properly, you don’t think properly and too much of worrying leads to suicide which is unfortunately on the increase in Chibhoraniland. Don’t worry. Be happy. Catholics sing, “This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice in it” or ‘’Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice,” rejoicing not too much on matters and things of this world because they are temporary, but in the eternal Lord. Biblical Habakkuk says, “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Saviour.” Yes you yourself can also say that even though the economy is sick and I am poor, even though I am disabled and stigmatised, even though I am a victim of corruption and misgovernance, even though I am going through this and that challenge, yet I will rejoice. Make the decision.
This kind of joy no one or any kind of circumstance can take away. Even if you don’t believe in God being positive will make a huge difference in your quest for joy and the resultant peace of mind. Worrying leads to depression and mental sickness. Worry kills. Why kill your precious self? Put a smile on your face in spite of all the odds and live. Try it and you will be surprised. Don’t worry. Be happy. So says your Sekuru Taurai vekutaurisa asi vachitaura chokwadi chinotaurika kune vanotaurirwa.
