Athlete slowly filling up his silverware cabinet

ZVISHAVANE- A 23-year-old Zvishavane-born, Great Dyke Athletics club athlete Lord Bismar Mathe has clinched several medals this year that his silverware and is almost filling up his cabinet before he reaches the peak of his career.

Mathe bagged a silver medal at Agric 24-sponsored marathon in Zvishavane. He went on to clinch a bronze medal at Great Zimbabwe marathon in Masvingo and picked another bronze medal at the Binga marathon.

Speaking to The Mirror Sport Mathe said he is happy that his hard work is finally yielding results.

“I have been training so hard but due to financial constraints I failed to travel to many sporting events. Fortunately we now have sponsorship from Agric 24 and I have managed to participate in a number of races.

Winning medals in the October races boosted my morale and this will help me go into next year motivated and probably l will turn the bronze medals into Gold”, he said.

Mathe did his primary school at Dohwa (Mhondongori) and went to George Chipadza Secondary School in Zvishavane, but dropped out while doing Form 2 because of financial constraints. He later went to his rural area where he managed to complete his O’ level.
