MASVINGO- The Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (ARDA) is inviting farmers in Masvingo Province to register for a joint Sorghum farming project.

Masvingo Province Agritex Director, Nobert Masiiwa told The Mirror that ARDA will provide the farmers with inputs and technical support.

He said interested farmers should register with his department or at their nearest Grain Marketing Board (GMB) depot before January 10, 2024.

“ARDA is calling on famers to sign a joint venture where they will access sorghum inputs easily. They can do this with the help of farmer advisors or go to their nearest GMB.

“The project is open to all farmers including small-scale and irrigation farmers. We are targeting 74 000 hectares of sorghum under this program,” he added.

ARDA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tinotenda Mhiko told The Mirror that ARDA will recoup its costs when farmers sell their grain to GMB.

“This program aims at boosting the country’s food security and to promote traditional grains farming to avert food shortages. We are providing these inputs on a cost retrieval basis at the point of sale at GMB depots nationwide and farmers are not limited on hectares they want to plant the sorghum,” he said.
