MASVINGO – Cases of heinous murder committed by mentally challenged people continue to rock the nation.
Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed to The Mirror that Arrifas has been arrested after he allegedly killed his father Garai Chingwe (46) of Makhadho Village under Chief Nhema in Zaka on Saturday last week (Jan 28, 2023).
Zimbabwe is said to be facing a critical shortage of drugs for the mentally challenged.
Arrifas allegedly bludgeoned his father to death with logs and the other son Panashe (21) found the body in a pool of blood and with deep cuts on the face and head.
The accused was with his father at home. Later on Panashe arrived at home and found his father in a pool of blood and a blood-stained log next to him.
The case was reported at Zaka Police on Sunday leading to the arrest of the accused. The deceased body was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for post mortem.
Inspector Dhewa appealed to members of the public that mental health patients should be urged to take their medicines as advised by mental health experts.
