MASVINGO – Masvingo’s Minister for Provincial Affairs and his Permanent Secretary Jefta Sakupwaya on Saturday attended a street fashion show sponsored by Ali & Company in which competitors majored in five different categories. Another sponsor was Leslie Designs.
The show was held at the intersection of Emmerson Mnangagwa and Josiah Tongogara streets.
The 14 designers presented clothes in the categories of mini bride, corporate wear, African attire, bridal wear and lobola dressing in which the winners were given a $US100 worth of hamper.
Chatnop Fashions was adjudged the overall winner after presenting all designs in every category.
The event is a first of its kind and people in town were mesmerised as cutely dressed women flaunted their bodies at the pavement in front of the Ali & Co Building.
Ali & Co sales manager Abdul Raman Lambart told The Mirror that the event was meant to identify talent in the fashion and design industry and to promote awareness in the people of Masvingo to have pride in locally designed clothes.
“We held this fashion show so as to expose talent that is in Masvingo. We have a lot of creative designers in the province but the narrative has captured those in Bulawayo and Harare and Masvingo has always been underrated.
“This is a platform to make the people begin to appreciate local talent and start to wear locally designed apparel,” said Lambat.
Some of the designers who took part in the event include Sinyo, Dress tube, Gloria Fashions, 3 stars, Mutukwa, Makufa, Nikolai, Chatnop, Mel Fashions, Linco fashions and FC tailors.
Speaking at the event Chadzamira said fashion and design is one of the most indispensable industries which are key to improving the economy of the province. He applauded Ali and Company for hosting the first ever street fashion show in Masvingo
“I am very happy to be part of this fashion show. Fashion is one of the things we cannot ignore as we wear clothes every day. It is a very promising industry that will help us improve the GDP of the province” said Chadzamira. https://masvingomirror.com/
