MASVINGO – National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) board chairman Advocate Rodgers Matsikidze has won the 2020 Institute of Directors Board Chairman of The Year Award.
The award was announced at an online ceremony held two weeks ago.
This becomes one of the several top national and international honours that Matsikidze who is also the founding partner of Matsikidze Attorneys At – Law has received.
The other nominee for the award was Ian Saunders who is the Director of New Dawn Mining Corporation.
IoDZ marketing and membership representative, Victor Garanonga said the award is a recognition to an individual who distinguished him or herself as a board member.
This theme for the awards was Effective Leadership: Building Sustainable Enterprise.
This prestigious award was introduced by IoDZ in 2005. It recognises a board member who has contributed immensely to his or her board’s direction, strategy and corporate social responsibility.
Matsikidze has from many quarters been hailed for giving NBSZ new life, new direction and a new corporate culture. There is much more confidence in Zimbabwe’s blood bank today than there was a few years back.
Speaking in an interview with The Mirror, Matsikidze said he is indebted to IoDZ for the recognition, NBSZ staff and executive for working with him and assisting him. He also thanked blood donors for working hard to support the blood donation movement across the country.
“I feel indebted to IoDZ and my work staff and fellow board members. I also would want to commend my family and wife for being supportive otherwise I wouldn’t be where I am today,” said Matsikidze.
Matsikidze has spearheaded a number of social responsibility programs including the ongoing project by NBSZ to provide stationery and other equipment at schools in Manicaland that were affected by Cyclone Idai.
Some of the awards Matsikidze clinched in the past include the Non-profit Making Corporate Board Chairperson of the year Award by the Institute of Corporate Directors. He also has won the Excellency and Quality Award in Switzerland in 2011.
Matsikidze also holds the Friend of the media Njama Award from the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ).
Some business leaders who won awards include the Young Director of the Year, Courage Matsa, who is the Country Partner for Baker Tilly; Woman Director of the Year is Deborah Tigere, the director for Christian Blind Mission Zimbabwe; CEO of the Year is Blessing Mudavanhu who is the Group CEO at CBZ Holdings; Director of the year – Small to Medium Enterprises Phillip Zengeya the managing director for Moushtec Steel and Fireplaces; Director of the Year NGO and Civic Society Organisations is Deborah Tigere who is the country director for Christian Blind Mission; Director of the Year State Owned Enterprises and Parastatals is Arthur Manase who is General Manager at National Social Security Authority (NSSA) and Director of the Year Large and Listed Companies is Blessing Mudavanhu who is the Group CEO at CBZ Holdings.
