Chivhu – Chivhu Residents and Ratepayers Association (CHIRRA) has given Chikomba Rural District Council a five-day ultimatum to supply water to the town’s biggest market and bus rank or face legal action.
CHIRRA secretary general, David Marufu told The Mirror that his organisation has made a resolution to go the legal route because of the Covid-19 danger paused by vendors operating with water.
The toilets also don’t have running water. The rank is in the middle of the CBD and this is where busses from towns and rural areas pick and drop passengers.
Chikomba RDC chairman, Alderman Israel Dhikinya said council will sink a borehole at the market but in the meantime vendors will fetch water from council offices some 500m away.
“If council fails to respond to our five day-ultimatum we are taking legal action. We have a deadly virus spreading like veld fire and we cannot prevent it without adequate water supply. This rank brings together people from all over the country and it is on the main route between Harare and South Africa,” said Marufu. https://masvingomirror.com
