MASVINGO – At least 421 underprivileged pupils from Masvingo Central received books, ballpoint pens and pencils under the #Donate a Book campaign on Saturday.
The campaign is led by the CCC candidate for the constituency in the 2023 elections Moses Mavhaire.
Mavhaire said similar campaigns are being held by CCC legislators and 2023 candidates.
He added that the 421 pupils were identified by community leaders and councillors.
“We came up with the campaign because of the drought that is ravaging rural areas. Most parents are prioritizing food security and in most instances pupils don’t have school stationery. After all the rural populace struggles with fees and it is worse on the stationery,” he said.
Mavhaire added that the campaign will be held at the beginning of every school term. He added that he is also working on setting a school fees fund for the pupils beginning next year.
“We ran a campaign, Donate a Book which was subscribed by people in the country and abroad. We will start looking into fees payments next year for identified pupils. This was the first campaign and it was a good start,” he said.
