MASVINGO – At least 40 professional and amateur golfers took part in last week’s Lake October Festival Golf tournament at Masvingo Golf Club.
The tournament was a build-up to this weekend’s hyper activities taking off on Friday night.
Masvingo Golf Club captain Brian Matake confirmed the attendance in an interview. He, however, said there is a need for more women to take up golf.
‘We had 40 participants. Golf encourages a healthy lifestyle because one walks seven to eight kilometres in one game. We call upon more women to take up the sport,” he said.
Carnival head of public relations Tavita Natasha Mpala told The Mirror that this year’s proceeds will be donated to cancer patients in the province. The festival is partnering Cancer Association of Zimbabwe for the project.
This week’s festivities kick off on Friday night with a star-studded show at Caravan Park. The show dubbed ‘Pink Friday’ is headlined by female artists such as Selmor Mtukudzi, Feli Nandi and DJ Liz from Bulawayo. The gaffer Winky D and Enzo Ishall are guest artists for the night.
The Great Zimbabwe Marathon will take place on Saturday morning taking athletes on the 10, 25 and 43 km races.
The marathon will be followed by a culture day at Tambai Lakeside Park on the shores of Mutirikwi Dam. Activities on the day include a tour of Great Zimbabwe Monuments, games drives, fun shooting, quad biking, boat cruises, beach sports, fishing and lion viewing.
A star-studded line-up of Killer T, Ex Q, Holy Ten, Mbeu and King Her will take revellers through the night at Caravan Park.
