CHIPINGE – A gang of four men has appeared at Chipinge Magistrates facing unlawful entry and theft charges after they broke into various shops in Checheche and stealing US$32 000 worth of goods.
All the suspects, namely Tawanda Mabharera (32), Alpha Malumbela (18), Malvin Katsoma (23) and Edmore Manhanga (23) are from Checheche Growth Point.
They all pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Chipinge Magistrate Alfred Chinembiri and were remanded in custody to August 5, 2021.
Chipo Junior Matanga for the state said the accused committed the crimes during the period from July 3 to July 20 2021.
On July 3 at 3pm, Happymore Moyo (34) who is a businessman locked his shop and went home. On the same night, the four connived and proceeded to Moyo’s shop where they used an iron bar to open the shop and took away RTGS$243 000 worth of goods.
On July 8 they broke into Pedzisai Shopera’s shop where they stole goods valued at R21 600.
On July 13, they broke into Abijah Macharangwanda’s shop where they went away with goods worth R18 170 were stolen and on July 18, they broke into Sarah Faduku’s barber shop and goods RTGS30 600 were stolen. They stole goods worth US$87 from Collen Sanyamuwera’s barber shop.
The quartet were arrested on July 20 while selling some of the goods they stole. A search was made at their homesteads and Chisumbanje Police recovered property valued at US$19 000.
