MBERENGWA – Magistrate Charity Tonongera has remanded four C-Mine security guards in custody for assaulting mine workers and forcing them to roll in slime over alleged gold ore theft.
Elias Nyakunhuwa (48), Tapiwa Dhliwayo (42), Bryne Anderson Mdala (29) and Silas Tizwani (26) from C-Mine compound, Mberengwa, appeared in court on Monday.
The four employed as security guards under C-Mine Loss Control Department allegedly assaulted Comfort Chinhamo, Tendai Shonhiwa, Wayne Rangarirai Chimbwembwe, Last Kujongonya, Modrick Dube and Clayton Shonhiwa for allegedly stealing gold ore.
The incident happened on March 21, 2023, at the mine around 8 pm.
Prosecutor Ali Matause said on the day the guards arrested the miners at Humphrey homestead in Cobert Village for allegedly stealing gold ore and took them to the mine.
Upon arrival at the mine, the suspects were ordered to lie down before they were assaulted all over the body using baton sticks.
Chinhamo and his colleagues were forced to roll in a slime at the mine around 11 pm.
The next day around 4 am, Chinhamo told the guards he wanted to relieve himself. He escaped to his Uncle Olipa Shoko’s homestead. He then filed a report at ZRP Mberengwa the next day, leading to the arrest of the guards.
