4 Beitbridge men jailed 9 years over pangolin

MWENEZI – Four men, two from Beitbridge and the other two from Mwenezi have been jailed to an effective nine years each after they were found in possession of a pangolin.

The four were intercepted by Police while they were driving around looking for a buyer.

They are Prince Kosa(30) of Tshishala Village in Chief Matibe’s area in Beitbridge, Philip Chimoro(52) of Mandati Village, Chief Matibe in Beitbridge, Stanley Hungwe(36) of Village 12, MaryView, Chief Chitanga and Alison Chauke(34) of Vavi Village, Chief Neshuro, Mwenezi.
The detectives from Chiredzi found them in possession of a pangolin weighing 2.8kg.

The accused pleaded guilty as charged and were slapped with 9 years in prison each.

The State said that on October 31, 2020 at 8am, detectives received information that the four were in possession of a pangolin and they were looking for a buyer.

At 1230pm the detectives teamed up with members from Zimparks and intercepted the accused at the 217km peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road travelling in a silver Toyota Wish.

The detectives searched the passengers and found the pangolin inside a black satchel held by Kosa on his lap. The accused named his other accomplices leading to their arrest.
