MUSAMI – Some 4 000 Catholic women of St Anne’s Guild were on Saturday told to fearlessly fight corruption that is tearing the national fabric apart.
They were told to stand firm and fight vices like corruption and violence and not to be afraid to confront the perpetrators. Out of fear, some of them end up joining in such vices, which is against the instruction of God.
Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) National Pastoral Director, the Synod and Jubilee 2025 Contact Person and Vice Secretary General, Fr Mgcini Moyo said this when he addressed women gathered at St Paul’s Musami Mission in Murehwa District, Mashonaland East Province for a four-day congress that brought together women in prayer.
“We were not given a spirit of timidity, the spirit we receive is the spirit of sonship, to say Abba Father. Remember the gifts and the fruits of the Holy Spirit, do not be afraid. Go and change that situation,” said Father Moyo.
He reminded them that the statement; Do not be afraid is written 365 times in the bible.
To remain timid and afraid as corruption and other vices tear the people apart is to refuse to carry the torch that Jesus Christ gave to Christians, said Father Moyo.
Jesus tasked his followers to bring light to the dark corners that include corruption, violence and other vices. He said the sad thing is that instead of fighting such things, some people end up joining in the bad things out of fear to confront the perpetrators.
“When Jesus Christ returns, what will He say of the task that we are expected to do? What are we doing? The one who set us on fire, what will He say? Are we bringing light to those dark corners of corruption? Where there is violence, are we bringing peace?” he asked.
