MASVINGO – Three Mutare residents died upon admission at Birchenough Bridge Hospital after a Mitsubishi Colt they were travelling in overturned at the 134km peg along the Masvingo – Mutare Highway on Sunday afternoon.
Masvingo Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the accident to Chipinge Times.
He identified the deceased as Georgina Mlambo (50) died on spot, Taruva Tebby (62) and Rumbidzai Verenga (7) all from Chikanga in Mutare. They all sustained head injuries.
Nine other passengers are admitted at Birchenough Bridge Hospital and five are in critical condition.
The vehicle was headed towards Mutare from Masvingo.
Circumstances are that the vehicle’s front right tyre burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle that overturned thrice before landing on its wheels.
All passengers were rushed to Birchenough Bridge Hospital where three died upon admission. The driver did not suffer any injuries.
The vehicle suffered extensive damages.
Dhewa implored motorists to exercise caution and avoid speeding.
