3 die in Chivhu-Harare Highway accidents
CHIKOMBA- Three people died in separate accidents. The accidents occurred on Sunday along the recently rehabilitated Chivhu-Harare Highway.
Mashonaland East Police Spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the accidents and deaths to The Mirror.
He identified one of the deceased as Violent Bunu. Chazovachiyi could not immediately provide the names of the two other victims.
One of the accidents happened around 7 am at the 98 km peg. Robert Madzikura (40) of Lot 2 Chiringanga Village lost control of his Nissan Almera with four passengers.
The vehicle headed to Chivhu from Harare veered off the road, hit a signpost and overturned once before landing on its wheels.
Bunu was a passenger in the vehicle. She died upon admission to Chivhu General Hospital.
The other two accidents happened at the 149km and 20km pegs. A 16-year-old girl died on the spot in the second accident.
“Drivers should exercise caution on the road and follow stipulated speeds. Drivers should also value life,” said Chazovachiyi.
Many drivers exceed the stipulated in the recently dualised highway, causing accidents.
