BUHERA – Three men including a 71-year-old granddad from Chifamba Village under Chief Chimombe in Buhera have been arraigned at Murambinda Magistrates Court for allegedly locking up a girl (13) and taking turns to rape her.
The girl is only doing Form 1.
The accused are Curius Kandenga (71), Panashe Kandenga (22) and Lessley Madawo (20) who are all neighbours with the complainant and they appeared before Magistrate Poterai Gwezhira on Thursday last week.
Magistrate Gwezhira referred the case to Rusape Regional Court and Connie Nyamaropa prosecuted.
It is the State case that sometime in August 2022 during the afternoon, Curius called the complainant to his house under the guise that he wanted to be assisted with household chores.
The complainant complied since she always assisted the elderly man in that way. She entered the room and Curius locked the door and demanded sex and when the minor refused the accused forced himself on her and allegedly raped her once.
Curius threatened the minor with death if she disclosed the matter to anyone. Curius then called the second accused Panashe in the sitting room and he allegedly instructed him to have sex with the girl. Panashe complied, put on a condom and allegedly raped the minor once. Panashe invited the third accused Madawo to have sex with the complainant. He also allegedly raped the minor once and threatened her with death if she reported the matter to anyone.
The complainant went home and told her sister the story. The matter only came to light on October 12, 2022 when the minor confided in a female teacher who alerted her mother.
A report was made to Dorowa Police Station and the minor was referred to Murambinda Hospital for medical examination. The report is yet to be submitted to court.
