2 Midlands chiefs elected to National Council unopposed

GWERU – Two chiefs from Midlands Province, Chief Ngungumbane, born Zama Mkwananzi of Mberengwa, and Chief Ntabeni of Zhombe, born Milton Ntabeni, were elected to the National Chiefs’ Council unopposed during elections held in Gweru.
The elections held by the Midlands Provincial Chiefs Assembly were conducted by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
Three other Chiefs elected are Chief Chireya, born Henry Chidzivo of Gokwe, Chief Mataruse of Mberengwa, and Chief Mafala, born Jongilizwe Matshazi of Zvishavane.
ZEC Midlands Provincial Elections Officer Docus Mpofu said the elections were a free and fair.
“This is in line with President Mnangagwa’s call for free and fair elections. I want to thank traditional leaders for setting the tone for free and fair elections,” she said.
The holding of the National Council of Chiefs marked the first stage of the August 23 general elections.
