Masvingo – Two MDC Alliance activists, Aleck Tabe (38) and Vigisai Nerupandai (53) spent Sunday night in Police cells at Masvingo Central after they were arrested for allegedly holding an unsanctioned political meeting.
Tabe and Nerupandai were joined at Masvingo Magistrates Court on Monday morning by Maggie Chakabuda (62) who was also arrested for being part to the same meeting.
The three were arrested for contravening Section 7 sub section 5 of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Act 11:23.
A state outline in the hands of The Mirror alleges that the three held a meeting on January 16, 2022 at Sisk Shops in Mucheke suburb in Masvingo.
The State papers do not indicate the number of people who were at the meeting.
Omen Mafa and Martin Mureri of Matutu and Mureri Legal Practitioners representing the accused told Magistrate Patience Madondo that there was no evidence that the three were the convenors of the meeting.
The State conceded to bail on conditions that the trio does not change their current places of residence and must not interfere with state witnesses.
