BUHERA – Buhera Rural District Council (RDC) has installed solar streets lights at Murambinda Growth Point at a cost of RTGS$2 million.

The project is intended to improve the safety of residents at night as there has never been street lights in the bustling urban settlement.

Buhera RDC chairman Ngoni Musakaruka confirmed the development.

“We have embarked on this project to ensure the safety of residents and to take advantage of solar energy which is abundant in this region. We will continue with the project and get into other streets as long as we still have funds,” said Musakaruka.

“We have completed installing the lights along the main street, we will move to other streets if our funds permit us to do so,” said Musakaruka.

Residents hailed the development but urged the local authority to prioritise Jaru High Density Suburb in the next phase because there is no electricity and there had been many robberies in the area.
