BUHERA – Leading cement producing company, PPC has in partnership with Miracle training college taken 120 builders and bricklayers through a building course in a bid to see better housing standards in the populous district of Buhera.

The 120 received their certificates at a ceremony held at Miracle training college last week.

Buhera Rural District Council was also involved in the programme.

It is also hoped that the programme will realise higher standands of building at Murambinda, the Buhera Growth Point which has just been accorded town status by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works.

The builders will be absorbed  by companies that will construct buildings and develop infrastructure in Murambinda in line with town status granted by government in February this year.

The College’s Executive Director Lloyd Kaserera told The Mirror that they are motivated to upgrade the skills of builders, brick layers and cement end users  in the district, which has a shortage of qualified manpower.

“The program was aimed at upgrading our builders to be competent enought to build world class infrastructure in Murambinda which received town status recently. Our thrust as a college is to work with key stakeholders in specific industries so that we enrich lives, raise aspirations and encourage enterprises” Kaserera told The Mirror.

“We are giving them some certificates after we entered into this partinership because we know PPC has a vision to have commited and groomed builders who use their premium cement to construct world class structures” said Kaserera.

Miracle is a private vocational and training college in Buhera and it is registered with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation Science and Technology Development.

It offers National Foundation Certificates, National certificates and diploma courses in brick and block laying, tourism and hospitality, carpentry, garment designing, agriculture and computer and packages.

PPC Consultant in charge of Manicaland and Mashonaland West Stanley Marifeni said his company was committed to empower builders, brick layers and end users of PPC products with knowledge and skills.

“We are targeting builders, brick layers and end users of our product to take part in the course to understand brick testing, soil testing using state of the art machinery” said Marifeni.
