119 graduate from Mlezu Agric College

Sydney Mubaiwa

KWEKWE – Some 119 students graduated with diplomas from Mlezu Agricultural College in Kwekwe on Friday.
Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Davis Marapira was the guest of honour.
Only 36 females graduated compared to 83 males.
Marapira commended the learning institution for continuing the tradition of excellence in agriculture education and farmer training.
“It is therefore pleasing for us to witness yet another group of young agriculture professionals in the agriculture sector. This increase in agriculture practitioners should also translate into improved production, especially in rural areas where 70 % of the population derive livelihoods from agriculture,” he said.
He also said that the Government had given all eight agricultural colleges tractors, accessory planters, and motorcycles for practical student training.
Mlezu has a partnership with Midlands State University.
Mlezu College deputy principal Joshua Maruza said the college is innovative and has introduced greenhouse technology, garlic production, dairy farming, and fodder crop production. He said they had also begun E-Learning at the institution.
The best overall student was Lloyd Mhlanga, who was best in farm accounting, irrigation, conservation work, tobacco production, and land use.
